Sketches from most recent trip to Italy

These are three of the sketches I did on my latest trip to Tuscany. I've been inspired to try a few line sketches combined with water color. I will also try importing some of the sketches into photoshop and adding some color there. That's a medium I don't know as well, but the whole idea is to keep learning, right?

The airport sketch is in Zurich while waiting for the connecting flight to Florence.

I will travel to this area 3 more times this year on business. Tough duty, right?

These are gorgeous! Great work, Dad. Each has it's own unique approach and style. Really love the pen sketch. Let's see some more like that!

OK. I really would like to explore more line work and maybe doing some computer color on top of scanned in sketches.

I've just picked up sketching. Is the best way to start just to sketch or is it important to read and see as many examples as possible?

The linework is very elegant and powerful, yet simple.
COngratulations.

To spenceanna, I think it helps to study the work of those you admire, but at the end of the day it's just doing lot's of sketches. You learn from the mistakes and solve problems as you go. It's about the "mileage".

Dad, I love # 2. Where was that sketched?

The sketch in #2 was done in San Sepulcro, Italy while I was sitting on the steps of an old school building looking down the street into the square. Later on I walked down tot he square to watch a community horse show and little kids doing trick riding alongside medieval horsemen and fine ladies.

I think that every time I come to this bog and look at your paintings, this one always stands out as my favorite!! I've love a glicee. Let me know how much that would cost and I'll send you the money when I can save it!!!

I'm referring to the very last one with the potted flowers.

I like the one with the flowers also. That's one I think we'd love a copy of some time and the Malibu one. Very nice!
